WEiRD, Drama

A short ensemble play about Grayson, a neurodivergent tween whose math genius propels him into high school — and into a world of trouble he’s not prepared for. Surrounded by teachers, peers, and adults who misunderstand him, Grayson becomes an unlikely catalyst for a community forced to confront its own rigid norms. Featuring a diverse cast of characters, this modern allegory explores how the pressure to conform in a small town harms not only those who don’t fit in but also those who enforce the conformity itself.

Opportunity Statement:
Seeking the opportunity to develop and workshop this new play on a college campus with theater students. The development process will use a devised theater approach, inviting the ensemble to become co-creators in shaping this contemporary allegory about conformity, difference, and community. Together, we’ll explore how performance can illuminate the social dynamics of belonging and exclusion — and how collaborative creation can model the very inclusivity the play seeks to express.
